Jacob came over between 1879 and 1883. Jacobs real brother John and mom died in Germany. He worked on the railroads when he was young in Iowa. Katherine made wedding cakes and held receptions in the home. Jacob and Katherine came to Foss in 1901 by train. They bought 160 acres for $1800 and built a 2 story house in 1913. They had orchards, vineyards, cattle, hogs, broom corn, cotton and grain. In 1919 they purchased 160 acres for $4000. Their son Jackie and son in law Albert Stamm farmed it later on. Jacob moved to Borger for a while where he had a number of rent houses.
