Johann Otto GRETEMAN Pedigree

Born as Honerlagen-Grete, he changed his name to Greteman when he came to the United States. Two of their children died in infancy and in 1851, Otto and his 1st wife, Maria Catherine Magerkohl HAHNO, with had 2 children emigrated to the United States. Maria and the youngest son died at sea of cholera. Johan Otto and his remaining son, Eberhard, age 5, landed at New Orleans and made their way up the Mississippi River to Chicago. He married Elizabeth Kemen circa 1853. After residing in Chicago for a number of years they moved to Minnesota, where they remained for a year. They came to Iowa, and farmed in Fayette county.
