Johan Henrich ALBERDING Pedigree

Married: November 1756

Anna Margaretha MEIJERS

Not married but had child with:

Margaretha Maria RECHTIEN

Daughter of Joan Jurgen RECHTIN and Anna Catharina REKAMP (married in Alfhausen on January 16, 1736)

* Although the record in Alfhausen’s Dead Book states that she was 65 years old when she died, she was only 57 years old. This kind of error was not uncommon.

Obviously, Margaretha Maria Rechtin, 17 years old, had a love affair with Johan Henrich Alberding, because the couple got a child. Amazingly, this child was born in the same month of Johan Henrich’s marriage with an other women, Anna Margaretha Meyer. This must have caused a great scandal. As the exact day of the the marriage is not registered, it is unknown whether the child was born before or after the father’s marriage.

In Alfhausen’s roman-catholic Baptization Book, she was explicitly registered as an illegitimate child of Johan Henrich Alberding and Margaretha Maria Rechtien. Before the name of the father, the priest wrote the word “Pater”, which means in this case “biological father”. The fact that his name was registered indicates that the father took the responsibility for the child’s birth.
